I have been doing yoga for a long time, almost 30 years off and on. In that time how I feel about certain pose has evolved as my body has changed and I have learned more about the poses and myself. I used to hate, bridge pose and chair pose, now I appreciate their strength building qualities and have learn ways to modify or align better in them so I like them.
Let me share my current favorite yoga poses.
1. Legs up the Wall – I do this pose everyday when I meditate or for savasana. There ae so many benefits of this pose and it just feels good.
2. Warrior III – Of course I would have a balance pose on this list, cuz balance is fun. In Warrior III you are using your whole body and mind to try and stay steady and strong. Balance pose also help slow down the swirl in my mind as I am solely focused on staying upright.
3. Deer or mermaid pose – This one is so great for your hips. It is my current go to pose for my hips
4. Dead bug – This is my go to for strengthening the core or midsection. It is gentle on your back and neck so you can focus on the core muscles. I can go on and on about how important it is to keep your core strong, especially as we get older.
5. Down Dog – I think this is perfect combination of strength and stretch. The back of the body to lengthening as you are build strength in the arms and upper body. It was not one of my favorite for a long time as I found it challenging. As I have grown stronger and adjusted the pose it has become a favorite.
I would love to hear what your current favorite yoga poses are.
